Kingsley has some of the oldest housing in Grand Traverse County outside Traverse City. Revive Exteriors helps homeowners in “a little bit of Paradise” replace worn roofs, drafty windows and tired siding, starting with a free inspection.
Kingsley started as a railroad stop in the 1870s, when Judson Kingsley set up Kingsley Station and a post office. The village was platted in 1876, merged with neighboring Paradise, and incorporated in 1893. Main Street (M-113) and Brownson Memorial Park are still the heart of town.
Census estimates show about 44% of Kingsley’s homes were built before 1980, and some date to before 1940. Homes that age often have their second or third roof, original or early replacement windows, and siding that has faded or cracked. They also tend to have less attic insulation than newer homes, which matters a lot for ice dams.
Kingsley sits inland on higher ground, close to 1,000 feet. It doesn’t get bay wind like the shoreline towns, but it gets plenty of snow: the Traverse City area averages about 101 inches a year, and January lows average around 17°F.
On older homes, that snow and cold expose weak spots fast: ice dams where attic heat leaks out, frost on single-pane windows, and drafts around original doors.

On a home that’s seen a few roofs, what’s underneath matters as much as the shingles. Here’s how we handle Kingsley roofs.
We remove the old layers so we can inspect and replace soft decking instead of covering it up.
Ice and water barrier at the eaves plus better attic ventilation, the real fix for older homes with recurring ice dams.

Insulated vinyl siding that adds a layer of insulation to older walls and ends the cycle of scraping and painting.
