Between Duck Lake and Green Lake, Interlochen homes sit under tall pines and heavy winter snow. Revive Exteriors installs roofs, siding and windows that handle both, with a free inspection to start.
Interlochen grew up as a logging and railroad town in the late 1800s. When the timber was cut, a stand of virgin pine was saved and became Interlochen State Park in 1917, Michigan’s first state park. In 1928 Joseph Maddy started the music camp that became Interlochen Center for the Arts, and the town’s motto, “Between the Lakes,” still sums it up.
Most homes in town are fairly young: census estimates put the median home around 1995, and about 100 homes have gone up since 2010. Around the lakes in Green Lake Township, places like Diamond Park and Duck Lake have older cottages that have been added onto over the years. That mix of eras is why we inspect each roof before recommending anything.
Interlochen is inland, so the main threats aren’t open-water wind but snow, shade and trees. Tall pines drop needles and branches that clog gutters and hold moisture on shingles, and shaded roofs stay snow-covered longer.
The Traverse City area averages about 101 inches of snow a year, with January lows around 17°F. Long cover of snow on a roof plus a warm attic is the classic recipe for ice dams on lake-area homes.

Wooded lake lots are beautiful and hard on roofs. Here’s what we focus on for Interlochen homes.
Algae-resistant Atlas shingles and proper ventilation help shaded roofs dry out, so moss and rot don’t take hold.
Ice and water barrier at eaves and valleys, plus attic airflow fixes that stop meltwater from refreezing at the edges.
Standing seam and Tilcor stone-coated steel let snow slide off and stand up to falling branches better than most shingles.
Low-maintenance insulated siding that won’t rot in damp, shaded spots under the pines, available in cabin-friendly shake and board-and-batten looks.
