The project

This lakefront log home is a showpiece, with soaring glass gables facing the water and a long run of attached garages on the drive side. It faces everything Northern Michigan weather can throw at a roof: wind off the lake, heavy snow, and freeze-thaw cycles all winter. The owners wanted a roof that would match the rustic character of the logs and outlast anything they had before.

What we installed

  • Tilcor stone-coated steel roofing across the main house, dormers, and garages.
  • Steel panels finished with natural stone granules, giving a textured, shake-style look that complements the log siding.
  • Careful flashing and trim details where the roof meets log walls, dormers, and valleys.

Why Tilcor stone-coated steel

Tilcor roofing combines a steel core with a stone-chip finish, so it looks like a traditional shake or shingle roof while performing like metal. It is rated Class 4 for hail impact and Class A for fire, engineered for winds up to 120 mph, and the stone surface dampens rain noise. For a lakefront home with big exposure, it was the right balance of beauty and toughness.
